Start With Why
Before you build systems, scripts, or a lead plan, you need to know why you are building them. Your Big Why is the emotional fuel that keeps you prospecting when the market is slow, the follow-up when no one is answering, and the discipline to treat this like a business instead of a hobby.
- What does real estate success make possible for your family?
- What legacy do you want to leave?
- What would you do even if you weren't paid for it?
Mission
Your Mission is a one-sentence declaration of what you do, who you serve, and the result you create. It should be short enough to memorize and specific enough to guide decisions.
- Example: 'We help families in the Upstate of South Carolina buy and sell homes with clarity, confidence, and white-glove service.'
- Use it in your email signature, listing presentation, and onboarding conversations.
Ultimate Vision & 10-Year Target
Borrowed from the EOS/Traction framework, your 10-Year Target is a bold, measurable picture of where the business is headed. It should feel slightly uncomfortable — if it is easily achievable, it isn't a vision.
- Annual closed transactions and GCI.
- Team size, roles, and market coverage.
- Lifestyle outcomes: time off, travel, giving, debt freedom.
Core Values
Core Values are the 3–5 non-negotiable traits that define who you hire, fire, and promote — starting with yourself. They are filters, not slogans.
- Pick values you are willing to enforce, even when it costs you a deal.
- Use them in your branding, your vendor selection, and your daily schedule.
3-Year Picture, 1-Year Plan, and Rocks
Traction breaks a big vision into manageable horizons. The 3-Year Picture is a descriptive snapshot. The 1-Year Plan lists 3–7 priorities. Rocks are the 90-day priorities that must get done no matter how busy the quarter gets.
- 3-Year Picture: revenue, team, market share, and personal life.
- 1-Year Plan: the 3–7 most important initiatives for this year.
- Rocks: 1–3 priorities per quarter; protect them on your calendar.
The EOS Scorecard
A weekly scorecard with 5–15 leading metrics keeps you honest before the month-end numbers arrive. Examples: dials, conversations, appointments set, listings taken, contracts written, and database growth.
